Ushtrasan or Camel pose - Steps and Benefits

Ushtrasan means Camel pose. Ushtra means Camel and asan means pose. There are two methods to do this asana. Camel Pose mentioned in Gherand sanhita is different than that mentioned in Patanjal method. We are going to explain here method mentioned in Patanjal. We are going to learn Steps and Benefits of Ushtrasan or Camel pose.

Ushtrasan or Camel pose - Steps and Benefits

Steps of Ushtrasan (Camel pose) –

First of all, kneel down on the floor and place your hands on your hips. Relax your body for few seconds.
Try to keep your knees and shoulders in the same line, also keep the soles of your feet facing to the ceiling.
Now, Inhale and draw your tailbone in towards your pubis.
While doing that, arch your back. Gently slide your palms over your feet and straighten your arms.
Keep your neck in a neutral position. It should not be strained.
Also, keep your mouth shut.
Try to be in same position for few seconds.

Precautions to take before doing of Ushtrasan (Camel pose) –

Do this asana with an empty stomach. Don’t eat anything, 3-4 hours before doing this asana.
Don’t do it forcefully. Do it, till you feel comfortable otherwise it will harm you.
Take doctors advice before starting to do this asana. Weak people should do it very carefully.
People having back or neck injury or high/low blood pressure should avoid this.
Beginner – Do it for 5-6 seconds and 1 repetition (increase time by 2-3 seconds every week).
Intermediate – Do it for 15-20 seconds 1 repetition (increase time by 2-3 seconds every week).
Regular – Do it for 10-15 minutes and 1 repetition.

Benefits of Ushtrasan (Camel pose) –

This strengthens the thighs, waist, backbone, shoulders, muscles in the neck and eyes.
It also increases the strength of muscles of arms.
It reduces the chances of constipation.
Improves the digestion.
It is beneficial for improvement of functioning of Thyroid. It is beneficial for patients of Hypo and Hyper thyroid.

आज या लेखामध्ये आपण सिद्धासनाचे फायदे अणि हे आसन करायची योग्य पद्धत किंवा विधी याबद्दल माहिती घेणार आहोत. सिद्धासन हे मुख्यत्वे मानसिक एकाग्रतेसाठी उपयोगी ठरते. तसेच कुठल्याही प्रकारचे श्वसनाचे व्यायाम अथवा ध्यान करताना सर्वात सहज अणि सोपे आसन म्हणून याचा निश्चित उपयोग होतो. माणसाच्या मनाचे शत्रु समजले जातात ते षडरिपु म्हणजे काम, क्रोध, लोभ, मोह, मद, मत्सर यांवर नियंत्रण मिळवून देण्याची ताकद या आसनामध्ये दिसून येते.  सिद्धासन आसनविधी सर्वप्रथम जमिनीवर अथवा आसनावर बसावे. उजव्या पायाची टाच शिवणीखाली (गुदद्वारापाशी) ठेवावी डावा पाय उजव्या पायावर ठेवावा. बाकीचे शरीर ताठ ठेवून दृष्टी सरळ ठेवावी. (काही मंडळी दृष्टी नासिकाग्रावर अथवा दोन भुवायांच्या मध्ये  देखील ठेवतात) दोन्ही हात गुडघ्यावर सरळ ठेवावे. मनात कुठल्याही उत्तम विषयाचे अथवा परमेश्वराचे चिंतन करावे.  श्वास नैसर्गिकरित्या  होईल तेवढा घ्यावा.  या अवस्थेमधे काही वेळ बसून मग दुसऱ्या बाजूने आसन करावे. Gomukhasana or Cow Face Pose - Steps and Benefits

Indian Yoga has many asanas/poses which gives really unpredictable but positive results. This is another next level of asana or a position. When we complete the position of Gomukhasana, it looks like a Cow Face, so that it is called Gomukhasana or Cow Face Pose.
